Louisiana Beef

In the State of Louisiana, we are proud of our heritage and our community, and there’s no better way to demonstrate that than by working with the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry to obtain a certification for the products you produce.

This certification is unique in that it provides oversight of the production of a local product to meet certain criteria and certifies those products as being local Louisiana. The product must be made, grown, manufactured, processed, produced or substantially transformed in the state of Louisiana to be eligible to use the Certified Louisiana logo. Greaux with Us!

Louisiana Cattle

As a Louisiana company, at Coastal Plains Meat Company we focus on local Louisiana cattle by working with Louisiana Cattlemen and women who raise quality beef cattle to bring a local beef protein to you the consumer. Think about it, as a consumer of any product we are getting more and more curious about what we eat. We often ask ourselves where this came from, who made it, what did it eat, was it given any hormones or antibiotics, what about steroids, how was it produced, how was it processed, was it made in a big factory, is it safe for my family.

These are all areas that we have the same passion about as our consumers do. This is why we chose to work with the LDAF and their Certified Louisiana program. This helps the consumer make choices at the meat case when they are passionate about supporting local products.

Beef is Best

If there was a protein contest, beef would surely be crowned the king! Among the powerful package 10 essential nutrients beef is known for, protein may be one of the most notable. In fact, one 3 oz cooked serving of beef provides 50% of your Daily Value (25 grams) of this important nutrient—making it an excellent source! This may leave you wondering how beef stacks up against other protein options. When it comes to high-quality proteins, beef provides many nutrients in a smaller serving size than some other choices (with unbeatable taste at that)! For example, you’d have to eat at least 8 oz. of cooked chicken breast to get the same amount of iron in just 3 oz. serving of cooked beef. When comparing zinc, you’d need to eat 20 oz. of cooked chicken breast!

Sustainable Beef

So, when you’re at your local grocery store and looking for something to cook for the day or the week, OR you are at your favorite restaurant, maybe you should consider where that beef came from.  Was it locally raised, was it locally produced and processed, is it Certified Louisiana? As we discussed here today, beef is a high-quality protein for you and your family, so why not be purposeful about your selection of that product by supporting local farmers and ranchers who work hard to raise the beef that help you answer your questions of sustainability, localization, and heart-healthy meat options.
